Early Official Republican Orders and Medals The first set of regulations for orders of the young Republic of China was promulgated on July 29, 1912, even before Yuan Shik-kai was officially sworn in as the President in late 1913. The Regulations created two orders, the Grand Order for heads of states, and the Golden Grain Order for civilians. On August 8, 1912, the Order of Rank and Merit was created. On December 6, 1912, the military Orders of the White Eagle and the Striped Tiger were created. In 1916, the Order of the Precious Golden Grain was added. In addition, nobility awards for Mongolian, Moslems, Tibetans, were also introduced in 1913.
